Photo of the Week! Sanderling

Nikon D7000, Nikkor 300mm f2.8, ISO 400, f5.6, 1/2500, +1/3ev

Since I haven't been out shooting much lately, I've been going through my old files to see if I had left something behind. This photo was from my trip to Pensacola Beach, FL last April. I did flag it as something I liked in Lightroom, but never got around to processing it until this last week. What I like about this photo is the inclusion of the other birds that are out of focus. Almost every other bird photo I have is a single bird in the frame. I thought I would change it up a bit with this one.

Photo of the Day! Sanderling

Once again, I wen back through my photos from Pensacola, FL. I was up walking the beach early in the morning when the temps weren't too hot yet. As I was walking along the beach, I would spot a group of Sanderings chasing the waves back into the gulf. I sat down and just waited for them to get into shooting range. The trick was to get my shots before someone else came walking towards me and scare them off.

I can't get enough of these little guys! I was going back through my photos from my recent Florida trip and found a few more that I like. I'll post a new Ruddy Turnstone later this week.

Photo of the Day! Sanderling pt.III

Sanderling's are very entertaining to watch. They follow the surf as it recedes back to the ocean to feed. The don't fly real often but they scoot with their feet quickly moving between the soft dry sand and the water.

Photo of the Day! Sanderling

My Florida shorebird shooting experience continued today. While sitting on the beach for an hour or so waiting for the sun to lower in the sky the Sanderlings arrived. It was a little more difficult to get good shots due to all the people walking on beach but I managed a few good ones.
